The Harvest Moon Festival

For generations, the most significant celebration on the calendar of the small town of Fayhaven has been that of the Harvest Moon Festival. As the only settlement within the inhospitable leagues of the Gristwood, the importance of festivities to the people of Fayhaven cannot be overlooked. The various cultures that make this town their home keep a variety of different feasts and holidays, but this unique festival unites them.

The Gristwood remains nigh untraversable throughout much of the year, due to monsters and the cursed nature of the wood itself. An impenetrable canopy lies over the wood in the summer months, and the unforgiving wintertime is no safer. For a brief period near harvest time, however, the thinning canopy and the persevering autumn sun provide an opportunity for those beyond the Gristwood’s borders.

The small town of Traft sits nestled beyond the edge of the Gristwood, and is one of the only settlements that makes a regular calendar of trade with Fayhaven. Fayhaven’s unique natural resources are attractive to outsiders, but the dangers of the crossing prevent most from making good on their interest. Traft maintains regular trade with the town, bringing luxuries such as books, wine, and ore in exchange for the valuable resources Fayhaven has to offer.

The trade and the harvest coinciding results in a time of excitement and plenty. The folk of Fayhaven celebrate this time of year with jubilation, dancing, singing, and tourneys hosted by each culture. The Mayor of Fayhaven invites all townsfolk, young and old, to attend the festivities and celebrate the end of a bountiful year. It will certainly be a festival to remember!
